Common home-care hazards

OSHA identifies hazards in home healthcare that can include bloodborne pathogens, lifting and ergonomic risks, workplace violence, hostile animals, unsafe driving, unsanitary conditions, and temperature extremes. Risk controls depend on the job, work setting, training, and employer responsibilities.

Worker-safety starting point

OSHA provides information for workers who believe a workplace has serious hazards or an employer is not following safety standards. Use OSHA’s current instructions to learn whether a complaint, request for inspection, or other route fits the concern. This page does not file a complaint.

Client-care and licensing starting points

Connecticut DPH investigates complaints within the authority it has over licensed health professionals and regulated health-care facilities. DPH warns that complaints and information submitted to a public agency may be disclosable under Connecticut freedom-of-information law. First confirm that DPH regulates the practitioner or facility.

The Connecticut Office of the Healthcare Advocate publishes a routing page for health-care complaints, including different starting points for practitioners, facilities, and long-term-care settings.
